CBD continues to pop up everywhere these days. Whether it’s in the news or a local CBD shop on the corner, it’s quickly becoming a growing industry. So, what IS CBD? CBD, or cannabidiol, comes from the cannabis plant and is thought to relieve many ailments including pain, inflammation, anxiety, depression and may even reduce the side effects of chemotherapy.

What is it NOT? CBD does not contain THC (tetrahydrocannbinol) which is what gives you the “high” sensation associated with cannabis.

CBD comes in many forms including topical creams/gels, edible gummies, softgel capsules or oils that are placed under the tongue. It also appears to have minimal side effects or risk for its users and most topical products don’t enter the bloodstream. It is thought that CBD may be an appropriate alternative to habit-forming opioids or other pain medications.

It should be noted that CBD may interact with certain medications, and should be used with caution, particularly if your medication contains a “grapefruit warning” as both grapefruit and CBD can interfere with enzymes needed for proper drug metabolism.

The bottom line is that more research is needed to confirm the overall benefits of CBD. However, research certainly agrees that the products have a lot of potential.
